Using this website
Accessibility
We want the Iris Cockatoo archive to be usable by people with different accessibility needs, including those using a keyboard, screen reader, magnification or reduced-motion settings.
Ways to explore
- Use the Archive Index to browse records as a list instead of finding objects in the visual study.
- Use Tab to move between links and controls, and Enter or Space to activate buttons. Escape closes supported popups.
- Record pages provide alternative text, written descriptions and transcripts to support the images.
- Reduced-motion preferences limit decorative animation. Mobile study views offer buttons for the Desk and Cabinet.
Discovery and the Field Case
Some related records are hidden until you follow a clue. This is part of the story experience. The Archive Index includes a “Need a lead?” button for hidden records, and record pages provide links to continue the trail.
The Field Case remembers collected records and reward access in your browser. You do not need an account. Clearing website storage or changing browsers may reset this progress.
Known limitations
- If the study’s hotspots are difficult to use, browse records through the Archive Index or try the mobile close-up views.
- Some fictional documents have aged paper, faint handwriting or low-contrast artwork. Their written descriptions and transcripts provide an alternative where the text can be read reliably.
- Some markings, including faint impressions, cannot be transcribed with certainty. The records explain where a reading is uncertain.
- The interactive discovery experience requires JavaScript. Individual page text remains available without it.
Our accessibility goal
We use the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) Level AA as a design and testing reference. The website has not received an independent accessibility audit, and we do not claim verified full conformance. We continue to review keyboard access, readable text, responsive layouts and interactive controls as the archive grows.
Reporting a problem
Our Contact page will list contact details when they’re available. To report a problem, include the page address, a description of the issue, and the browser, device or assistive technology you were using. This helps us reproduce and address the issue.
